Winton Group offers
support for visually impaired Children

Earlier on this year a member of the Winton Group was approached by two mums who wanted their children, who are both blind, to learn to ride.  After due consideration the Group agreed to offer coaching for a trial period. There was real excitement within the Winton Group team, and the owners of Fergushill Riding School, where we hold our lessons, about helping visually impaired children. I am happy to report that the trial has been a great success, so much so that we are intending to increase our support in the future.

40th Anniversary

I have been privileged to be involved with Winton for almost all of the forty years the group has given lessons. Hundreds of willing volunteers have helped over the years and felt rewarded by making a difference to the health, happiness and wellbeing of our riders.

There have been many highs – from riders winning at competitions – to the Princess Royal’s visit for our 21st and Derek Cooper’s medal at the Special Olympics in Shanghai. It is still a thrill when a rider achieves a new level and encourages us to continue to give as many lessons as possible.

The group is in good heart thanks to the efforts of Instructors, Volunteers, Fundraisers and Benefactors whose support is vital and much appreciated.

Muiscal Ride

5th Scottish live competition held at Ayr Equestrian Centre.
2nd National RDA video competition. (3rd year running)

Musical Ride Video takes second at Nationals two years on the TROT!

This year the children took the stage for a medieval extravaganza with “Eglinton Tournament meets Excalibur”, coached and choreographed by the now famous Gillian Beattie from Fergushill Riding Stables.

The group came second in the local, live competition held at Ayr Equestrian centre this summer, up a place on last year, and second once again in the National video competition.

All the magnificent costumes for both horses and riders were made by Gillian.

This is a very popular event very much enjoyed by all involved.

My Favourite
Pony Drawing

This drawing of Ned is by Caitlyn Fulton, aged 8, who rides with the Winton Group.

Ned is one of the children’s favourites and certainly has a fan in Caitlyn, could you draw your favourite pony? Why not have a go and send it in to us, we will print one in every edition of the newsletter plus we will show them on the website.

Charity Clay Shoot
a great succes

A major charity clay shoot was held at “Cowans Law” country sports facility by kind permission of Jay Steel and Leslie Hair in August, the event raised in excess of £4,000 for the RDA Winton Group.

The weather was very kind to us on the day which was enjoyed by the shooters and families alike. We would like to thank all of the sponsors, those who donated gifts for the auction, all the teams that took part and all of the helpers involved on the day for their invaluable help.

The success of the day was largely down to the energy and enthusiasm of the shooting and equestrian community who turned out in force to support the RDA cause, a good day was had by all.

The day was a tribute to all involved a big THANKS! to all involved
